As a group, we are pioneers in energy transition, we find beneficial alternatives for the generation of energy. One of them is the contribution to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. Therefore, along the way we have joined initiatives with a global impact, like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We have made the SDGs a core element of our business and social action strategy, because we are convinced of the world we want to live in, and of how we can do it. We know that through concrete actions and teamwork we can contribute to the fulfillment of these 17 goals.
At Iberdrola México we have particularly promoted different initiatives that differ considerably at first glance from our business activity, but therein lies the significance of knowing how to use opportunities and achieve concrete changes.
For instance, SDG 4: Quality Education. This is part of the company´s social strategy, which believes in children and young people´s education with a comprehensive vision, i.e., to achieve a 360-degree outreach, which includes educational infrastructure, training for students, parents, and teachers.
We are enormously proud to say that we are on the right direction with each of our programs. Following are some of them.
- Construir para Educar (Build to Educate):
This program will allow 10 thousand students to go back to their classrooms. With an 80-million-peso investment in five years, it plans to rebuild 50 schools that were affected by the 2017 earthquakes in Oaxaca.
- Impulso STEM (STEM Boost):
We encourage engineering study among young people in Oaxaca, mainly women. By the training of guidance counselors, science and technology workshops, as well as scholarships.
- Educación con energía (Education with Energy):
From the beginning this program has impacted 123 schools over five states. We believe that through education we can promote the personal and professional growth of parents and teachers for the benefit of children and young people in Mexico.
Added to our list are providing workshops on climate change as well as volunteering programs.
At Iberdrola México we know that education is key to tackle any challenge and thus we will continue driving initiatives that will contribute to the country’s development.
