- The Sikuli program provides 9 months of training and support to design programs and services for the benefit of Mexican communities.
Mexico City, March 2, 2023.- Iberdrola México joined the Síkuli program to train and guide 12 entrepreneurs throughout 2023 to develop their social and environmental projects that seek to make a change in the country.
“Iberdrola México’s participation in the fourth generation of the Sikuli program is in line with the company’s social dividend, its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the growth of local communities,” stressed Karina Gómez, CSR coordinator at the energy company.
The program, in alliance with the social innovation company Unboxed, provides nine months of support during which participants in this idea’s lab will have a network of mentors and partners – including Iberdrola México’s employees- to create a product or service prototype, a socio-environmental impact strategy and an action plan to start working on their project.
As far as training is concerned, Síkuli offers in-person and online workshops to develop both project and entrepreneurial skills, as well as a masterclass with national and international experts.
Following a selection process that began in the last quarter of 2022, the jury selected 12 proposals that fall under the following themes: Equity and inclusiveness (7); Decarbonization and the environment (3), and Empowerment of Indigenous women (2).
“Síkuli’s aim to create a network of partners that will enable participants to consolidate their initiatives and boost their potential impact. And hand in hand with Iberdrola México, we want to strengthen them to have influence in their communities,” stressed Rachid Arrañaga at Unboxed.
The selected proposals are distributed among the states of San Luis Potosí (3), Coahuila (2), Puebla, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Querétaro, Hidalgo, and Aguascalientes.
“Being selected to be part of Sikuli opens up a world of opportunities for my project, which came into being to improve my social environment and reduce violence,» said Perla Berenice Sánchez from Ocoyucan, Puebla, creator of Remamos Juntas (We are Rowing Together), a program that seeks to empower women through writing so they know their rights and, with their stories, «they invite them to transform» society.
