Football is the most popular sport in Mexico, the stadiums grandstands are packed with fans who support their teams, and there are great figures who have stood out in this field in the country.
Therefore, it is not hard to image that football is usually played by Mexican children and youth. It is fun, rules are simple, only a ball and level ground are required to practice it. It knows no social or geographical distinctions; it just knows about energy and willingness.
In this regard, football is a simple access to the activation and motivation of people, there is always time for a “kickaround”.
How do we connect football with energy generation?
Moved by the commitment to contribute to society, for some time at Iberdrola México we have been carrying out actions to promote sports, ranging from the donation of uniforms to the conditioning of sports areas in localities next to our facilities.
The above made us push our boundaries and being convinced of the talent we can find in Mexico, we sought to give a boost of energy to a local team and nothing better than doing it in a region where we started operations more than 15 years ago. And this is how the alliance with the Sultanes and the Sultanas de Tamazunchale FC – football teams of the Huasteca Potosina – came about.
If energy is movement, we want to encourage it among young people. Thus, we are excited to be part of the history of these clubs that were constituted in 2011 in Tamazunchale, San Luis Potosí, which were the first professional teams in the region and now the men’s team is in the third division.
With this alliance we contributed to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), by organizing football tournaments, athletic races and nutrition workshops.
- Gender Equality (SDG 5), since we will promote the women’s and men’s teams, as well as the empowerment of women within and without the field.
- Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), owing to the synergy among the team, local authorities, and Iberdrola México.
