Iberdrola México was honored by Grupo Modelo

  • The brewing company awarded Iberdrola México the “Aliado Sustentable” (Sustainable Partner) award for being a key part to compliance with its global environmental goals.
  • Iberdrola will supply renewable energy to Grupo Modelo’s plants from the PIER wind farm located in Puebla.

In the first edition of the “Cooperate 2019 – Growing Together” convention held this week, which gathered AB InBev’s business partners across Latin America, the brewing company highlighted how its partnership with Iberdrola México will help develop clean and environmentally friendly processes to reduce its carbon footprint and help in the fight against climate change.

Iberdrola México is currently building the 220 MW PIER wind farm in the state of Puebla, which will become operational in the mid of this year and will supply clean energy to Grupo Modelo’s brewing plants. This facility will allow to reduce emissions equivalent to withdraw from circulation 90,000 vehicles a year.

“This is a very special project for us, which strengthens a strategic long-term partnership with Grupo Modelo, because we are two companies with special sensitivity for the environment, the sustainability and respect for the communities where we operate”, said Enrique Alba, Iberdrola México CEO.

Marcos Eloi, vice-president of Procurement and Sustainability for Middle Americas, who gave the recognition to Enrique Alba, stressed the key role of energy to their global sustainability goals.

“We are very proud of our partnership with Iberdrola for the generation of renewable energy. We will continue collaborating together in expanding this great achievement in the region,” said Marcos Eloi.

Grupo Modelo and Iberdrola México renewed their commitment to the environment and the promotion of sustainable practices for a cleaner world and affirmed that they are working on new ways to strengthen this partnership to achieve a more sustainable and greener world.
