Iberdrola México recognizes its Mexican suppliers and reinforces its social commitment

  • In 2018, Iberdrola México awarded procurement contracts worth over $1.13 billion dollars, nearly 70% to Mexican companies.
  • The company announced that it will earmark more funds for social projects in the country’s most in-need areas.

“Iberdrola México is committed to the Mexican industrial fabric and to social responsibility; therefore, we want to recognize suppliers that share with us these values and become authentic partners for achieving our goals”, said Enrique Alba, CEO of Iberdrola México.

In 2018, Iberdrola México made purchases worth $1.13 billion dollars, nearly 70% from Mexican companies. In addition, this commitment to the Mexican industry will be reinforced during the current administration; Iberdrola México announced new investments in power generation projects amounting to $5 billion dollars, of which at least $3 million dollars are expected to be purchases from Mexican suppliers.

Alba stressed the Mexican industry’s need to be more efficient in an increasingly demanding global environment, where a competitive electricity supply will be critical.  Additionally, he pointed out that all the companies must undertake to encourage more ambitious social actions to have a positive impact on the country and announced that Iberdrola México will earmark more funds for social projects in the most in-need areas.

At the ceremony, Iberdrola presented awards in eight categories: Historic Supplier, Supplier of the Year, Best Supplier of Energy Services, Best Supplier of Non-Energy Services, Quality and service Response, Competitiveness and Innovation, Environment and Corporate Social Responsibility, and Health and Safety.

Enrique Alba and Francisco Cervantes, president of the Mexican Confederation of Industrial Chambers (CONCAMIN), gave out the Historic Supplier Award to Xignux, a Mexican business group that has provided services for 20 years with the highest quality standards to contribute to the growth of  Iberdrola México.

“The energy sector is strategic for Mexico, since critical aspects for the country are contingent on it, like people’s wellbeing, industry competitiveness, and economic growth. The exchange  of best practices between suppliers like you is indispensable to achieve the most efficient processes”  Francisco Cervantes explained.

Praxair was the winner in the Supplier of the Year category, VOLTRAN in the Energy Services category, and the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in the Non-Energy Services category.

Other companies that received awards this Tuesday were Constructora y Arrendadora López, DICA Ingeniería, the Instituto Mexicano para la Excelencia Educativa, and Hola Innovación.
