UROLOGICAL BRIGADES

A doctor and a nurse receive an international scholarship in urology from Iberdrola México

  • The two health professionals will train during a month in Spain at the end of 2022.
  • The third edition of the Urological Brigades to care for low-income people will be held in December.

Oaxaca, September 29, 2022.- Iberdrola México, in partnership with the Miguel Litton Foundation and the Spanish Urology Association, presented today two international scholarships for advanced urology training to Dr. Ashmar Gómez Conzatti and nurse Eber Leticia Salazar Cruz, both natives of the state of Oaxaca.

After a stringent selection process, the health professionals holding a scholarship will specialize in hospitals in Spain for one month to perfect their knowledge for treating urinary tract and pelvic floor disorders, as well as different surgical techniques.

The manager of the Renewable Business of Iberdrola México, Luis Estrada, stressed that “the company is committed to the development and care for communities where it has a presence with programs such as Urological Brigades, which allows us to drive the local talent while caring for the health of low-income people, mainly women”.

“The health system in Oaxaca is strengthened with more professionals specialized in surgical care. Providing the best care is an unwavering commitment for our Management”, Erick Azamar Cruz, advisor of the Health Ministry of Oaxaca, added during the official scholarship presentation event held at the High Specialty Regional Hospital of Oaxaca (HRAEO).

“Receiving this scholarship has been a great opportunity to develop my professional career. I am proud to think that all the knowledge I will gain will allow me to offer a better service to patients”, said Salazar Cruz, worker at the HRAEO.

Her scholarship partner and co-worker at the medical center, Dr. Gómez Conzatti, stressed this training value: “The opportunity to travel to Spain to specialize with the help of highly qualified staff will allow us to have a greater vision and gain new skills. I hope to apply all my learning to the benefit of patients”.

Scholarships are addressed to health professionals who work in the public sector, and cover transportation, lodging and food expenses for this training in Spain, which will take place late in  2022 in two hospitals accredited by the Spanish Urology Association.

The purpose of the Urological Brigades is to contribute to the welfare of low-income people in Oaxaca, mainly women suffering from complex urological problems.

This project, which includes the Secretariat of Health Services of Oaxaca and the HRAEO as partners, started at the end of 2019 and requires an investment of over six million pesos until 2024.

“The bond we have formed with the Secretariat of Health and Iberdrola México is for the benefit of all our patients. We are proud that, in this edition, two of our most reputed specialists also take part in them”, explained Alba Vásquez Palacios, director general of the HRAEO.

More than one hundred patients have been cared for in the first two editions, and the third round of Urological Brigades to treat more than 55 people will be carried out in December 2022.

With this program, Iberdrola México strengthens its commitment to support the regions where it operates and to continue contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, mainly SDG 3, aimed at ensuring a healthy life and promoting welfare.
