2020: Our Energy on your Side

We thank you for having joined us until the end of this year, which has been peculiar for many reasons. There is no place around the world where there is no talk about the COVID-19 outbreak and its consequences to our lives. Nevertheless, at Iberdrola México we are motivated to continue working and feel proud of what we have built.

We started this year becoming the first private energy company in Mexico to win the Ibero-American Prize for Quality, which proves our sound commitment to ethics, the social dividend, the environment, and efficiency, which are undoubtedly part of our strategy as a company.

2020 was the year in which we drove professional development, awarded master’s degree scholarships, and highlighted the importance of studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics degrees, which are highly demanded in the world of work and in which men are usually more involved.  However, our company is convinced that professions are not a matter of gender – opportunities here are for everyone.

With Impulso STEM (STEM Boost), the first scholarships were delivered to students in the state of Oaxaca to study engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica de los Valles Centrales de Oaxaca (UTVCO). Additionally, with the Construir para Educar (Build to Educate) program, we delivered the first refurbished school, which reflects that we are convinced that quality education is the future.

What was our reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak? Although the cure was not in our hands, we did have the teamwork and support for the most vulnerable. We discovered that there is no place like home to work and keep our employees safe, and that we could strengthen security measures.

On top of that, we had to care for our customers’ needs, so we secured their electricity supply without neglecting our human resources. It was not easy, but the situation showed us that teamwork is essential.

We traveled across Mexico to support the most vulnerable and realized that, once again, collaboration between the private initiative and the government is key to help the most vulnerable groups, and this makes us bigger.  So, we delivered 2 million units of health material and over 15,000 food packages in communities surrounding our power plants.

At Iberdrola México, we work to contribute to industrial development in the country and get the most out of natural resources and thus be an agent of change.

We know that we will meet again soon. With this conviction, we invite those who have the possibility to stay at home to do so, because this is the best way to deal with a virus that showed us that teamwork, even from the distance, makes us stronger.
