Iberdrola promotes talent with new scholarships for postdoctoral research in clean energies

  • The program, promoted by the Iberdrola Foundation, is for people of any nationality.
  • The registration period for this second call ends on March 30.
  • Iberdrola México is one of the group’s four affiliates taking part in this program with a 24-month duration.

The Iberdrola Spain Foundation, in collaboration with the European Commission’s Research Executive Agency (REA), promotes the second edition of the international postdoctoral fellowship program “Energy 4 Future” for people of any nationality.

“Energy 4 Future” is an initiative that is part of the Horizon 2020 MSCA-COFUND Program and has a joint funding of 4 million euros. In its two editions, it offers 28 young people the opportunity to develop their projects in a clean energy environment in a network of internationally prestigious universities and research centers located in Europe and the United States.

Thus, Iberdrola continues to develop its commitment to talent, excellence, and employability by participating in this new call for “Energy 4 Future” scholarships, an action that is part of the company’s social dividend. The meeting of the program’s first edition was held last November.

The 16-second edition scholarships cover five fields of study:  photovoltaic solar energy, wind energy, storage, smart grids, and electric cars.

In order to facilitate geographic mobility and the sharing of knowledge between the academic and industrial sectors, the program considers host periods of 18 to 21 months in universities and research centers, as well as professional sojourns of 3 to 6 months at Iberdrola’s headquarters in Spain, the United States, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

The registration deadline for these scholarships in their second call is from February 1 to March 30, 2023. The evaluation period runs from April to August and is followed by the interview stage in September.

In October, the beneficiaries of these 2-year scholarships, from January 2024 through December 2025, are notified.

The research will take place at 15 European and American universities and research centers:  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Rochester Institute of Technology, in the USA; University of Strathclyde and Imperial College of London, in the UK; Université de Bordeaux, in France; and Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, in Germany.

Eight centers participated in Spain: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad Carlos III, Universidad de Cantabria, Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Universidad del País Vasco, Universidad de Salamanca, IMDEA Energía and Polymat – Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering.

This initiative replaces the former scholarship program for young researchers promoted by the Iberdrola Spain Foundation since 2011, to which over 3 million euros have been earmarked to foster the development of 180 researchers.
