Oaxaca, April 5, 2021 – Iberdrola Mexico today launched the second call for scholarships for young people interested in studying engineering at Universidad Tecnológica de los Valles Centrales de Oaxaca (UTVCO), as part of the Impulso STEM (STEM Boost) project, developed jointly with this university and the Institute for Renewable Energy (IER) of the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico).

This year 23 scholarships will be awarded and applications to participate in the selection process will be received between April 5 and May 31, 2021, through the website www.impulsostem.com. The list of selected candidates will be published on July 30, 2021.

«Today having professionals with STEM degrees is increasingly important for the development of the regions. For us, as a company based on innovation and technological development, it is essential to encourage more young people to pursue university studies in fields related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and thereby contribute to the development of south-southeast Mexico,» points out Enrique Alba, CEO of Iberdrola México.

UTVCO rector, Nydia Delhi Mata Sánchez, says that this synergy has a positive impact on young people in Oaxaca: «Through this scholarship, we will inspire more young people, more women, to study STEM degree courses and be closely accompanied so they can successfully complete their academic preparation”.

The degree courses available at UTVCO are Sustainable and Protected Agriculture, Information Technologies, Renewable Energies, Mechatronics and Bio-food Technologies. The purpose of the scholarship program is to enable young people interested in studying these degrees to do so successfully, from their admission to graduation.

The professional training period will run from September 2021 to April 2025 and cover the registration fee and a four-monthly financial endowment to cover transportation, food, lodgings and school expenses, depending on the duration of the study plan of each degree course.
