Our commitment to sustainable development goals

Today, we face different challenges – environmental, social, and economic – that threaten the future of the planet. Therefore, the United Nations called for member countries’ governments, private sector and civil society to get together and draft a roadmap to tackle them, and this is how the Sustainable Development Goals were defined.

But how can we contribute to fulfill these goals from the energy sector?

At Iberdrola México, we believe that incorporating sustainability to our power generation strategy is the best opportunity to fulfill these goals: from building our projects and actions for communities and their surroundings to supplying affordable and environmentally friendly energy through our plants and farms.

Main Focus

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
GOAL 13: Climate Action

In our operation we ensure taking care of natural resources like water (Goal 6) and encourage respecting terrestrial ecosystems close to our facilities (Goal 15). We also work on innovation in every process and infrastructure (Goal 9), and, together with our employees and partners, we have in place an International Corporate Volunteering Program that allows us to have a positive impact on the communities (Goal 17).

Direct Contribution

GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
GOAL 15: Life on Land
GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal

Besides the direct contribution to these SDGs, we seek to have an impact through initiatives developed by Iberdrola Mexico Foundation, which are focused on four axes to broaden our scope of action and become agents of change:
