Iberdrola Mexico Foundation began an education project in the city of Altamira, Tamaulipas that includes workshops and resources for students, educators and parents from the community. It aims to strengthen the beneficiaries’ intellectual abilities and the community’s social fabric.

In collaboration with the city government and the Mexican Institute for Educational Excellence, Iberdrola will offer workshops that, in their initial phase, will benefit 200 students, 300 parents and 200 educators at primary level educational institutions.

“For Iberdrola Mexico, working with parents and educators is very important to provide a better education for the children in the communities we work in. This programme will offer spaces where they will be able to gain knowledge that will drive the development of the community,” said Alicia Valcarce, the director of Iberdrola Mexico Foundation.

The workshops will present scientific, environmental and personal development topics by teaching participants skills like reading comprehension strategies, mathematical thought processes, creativity and research techniques, as well as biodiversity conservation, self-esteem and planning for family goals.

The mayor of Altamira, Alma Laura Amparán Cruz, thanked Iberdrola for heading this project, which “improves the Altimaran children’s academic development, furthermore involving teachers and parents, in order to form upstanding men and women through study.”

The education programme will also be conducted in communities in San Luis Potosí, Durango and Nuevo León, states where Iberdrola Mexico has power plants.

This project is part of Iberdrola Mexico’s social action pillar, which seeks to assist marginalised social groups with projects that contribute to human development and education.

Through programmes such as this, Iberdrola reaffirms our commitment to improving quality of life for the Mexican communities that live in the areas surrounding our plants.
