Eleven Mexican youngsters received from Queen Letizia, the president of Iberdrola, Ignacio Sánchez Galán, and Spain’s Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, scholarships to pursue master´s degree studies at prestigious international universities in Madrid today.

In this 2018-2019 edition, Iberdrola allocated nearly 3 million euros for 97 youngsters from ten countries, including Mexico, to study a master’s degree program in clean energies, energy engineering, environment and cybersecurity.

From its beginning in Mexico in 2014, this program has awarded scholarships to 39 students in Mexico.

“I am not only trained in architecture, but also in energy efficiency and how to lower the impact on the environment. Together with my job, the master’s degree has helped me widen my knowledge about the energy industry”, said Pilar Villagrán, who completed a master’s degree at the Universidad de Oviedo with the 2016-2017 Iberdrola Scholarship and is now employed at Iberdrola México.

The company’s President thanked Queen Letizia for her support of “new generations called to transform our reality of today into their reality of tomorrow,” since it is critical that “talented young people contribute to build a more sustainable world through the protection of the environment and biodiversity”.

Iberdrola has strengthened its bond with the academic world through actions focused on attracting talent and transferring knowledge. Furthermore, the company backs the education of young people with a great capacity. In the last five years it has contributed to the education of nearly 4,000 university students.

By supporting education, research and knowledge, Iberdrola continues to progress in the fulfillment of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
