Quality of life for the residents of Cuyoaco

Cuyoaco: a social work with energy and solidarity

We have sought a remarkable presence in the Cuyoaco municipality in Puebla, both due to the operation of Iberdrola’s third photovoltaic project in Mexico and the social work carried out in this region. These efforts, performed hand in hand with local authorities and vendors, are aimed at positively impact on the quality of life of residents in localities close to the park, just as we do where we have a presence.

2,796 people were benefited with social works delivered during the late months of 2020, which included the refurbishment of five schools and two community centers, as well as the restoration of a water well. Construction works at such facilities were the following:

    • Roofing in forecourts
    • Infrastructure and equipment of a school canteen
    • Completion of a perimeter fence
    • Building of a multipurpose room and planters
    • Works at sanitary facilities
    • Refurbishment of an auditorium and a country house
    • Painting, conditioning, and electrical repairs in the water well

These works were planned to help people of all ages – from pre-school or Telesecundaria (distance education) students to citizens who hold meetings at community places – and to support them with the supply of basic necessities, with the purpose of protecting and providing them with spaces where they can perform recreational activities safely, which will contribute to their development as well as that of the region.

Additionally, talks and workshops were given on the environment, first aid and metal and agricultural industries, and attendance certificates were awarded. Because of the COVID-19 emergency, we delivered food packages and medical supplies for hospitals and people in the region, together with the virus prevention information.

These efforts coincided with the beginning of the commercial operation of our Cuyoaco solar farm (200 MW) – the first power plant of its class in the region –, which has been servicing different customers with its more than 720 thousand solar panels since December 2002. With this plant, we align to the sustainable development goal 7, affordable and clean energy, because its operation contributes to reduce up to 146,000 tons of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere each year.

We are change agents who work with energy and commitment on the creation of sustainable value for the industry, positively impacting both the communities where we have a presence and energy development in Mexico, through a reliable, competitive, and environmentally friendly supply.
