CHAIN VALUE

Chain value: Working with Iberdrola México’s suppliers

At Iberdrola México we seek to create a positive impact on the domestic economy from the production of environmentally friendly energy at competitive prices, as well as through the chain value that enables to provide this service to the Mexican industry.

At any of our power plant and office locations, we work hand in glove with multiple suppliers who help us meet different business needs.

For the construction of our farms and power plants we rely on building companies that help us with civil works, such as the perimeter fence or drainage services. Sometimes, these companies participate in social work with us in the communities where we are present.

For Iberdrola México, relying on local suppliers is highly valuable not only because of the services they provide us, but also because of the impact on the lives of their employees, who have seen a positive change from working jointly.” “I used to work in the countryside cutting sugarcane and making piloncillo (unrefined brown sugar), but I joined the company and started to improve”, recounted Rusbel Hernández, who is part of a company that provides air conditioning services at the Tamazunchale combined cycle power plant.

And we cannot overlook a highly significant aspect in our value chain: food. Small restaurants and fondas near our impact zones have also seen their business grow due to the visits of our employees and external staff, who savor their dishes.

Besides driving their business, Iberdrola México’s support to suppliers comprises social responsibility, because we are aligned to Sustainable Development Goals and thus every company with which we work must also be subject to environmental, social and governmental policies and standards. Therefore, we implement actions including the following:

  • Sending improvement plans to boost their sustainability levels and follow up on their implementation.
  • Conducting social audits to verify the sustainability profile.
  • Verifying compliance systems focused on preventing corruption and other irregular behavior.
  • Selecting two SMBs and guiding them through the certification process of the Socially Responsible Company Distinction of the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (Cemefi) on a yearly basis.

It is our priority for us to support small, medium-sized and large local companies, since we have proved that we can have an impact on economy and, thus, on the development of the localities where our facilities are situated.
