Mexico City, November 11, 2022.- For its management focused on continuous improvement in environmental matters, Iberdrola México’s Operations and Maintenance department obtained ISO 14001:2015 certification for its ten renewable energy facilities in Mexico (seven wind farms and three solar power plants) from the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR).
This recognition certified the energy company’s efficiency and good environmental practices in the running of its renewable energy plants, which currently have a combined installed capacity of over 1,160 megawatts (MW) in Mexico.
«This certification by AENOR is the result of our commitment to environmental protection and the high quality standards with which we operate our renewable facilities. Therefore, we are always seeking continuous improvement in our processes to help decarbonize the industry in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),» said Iberdrola México’s CEO, Enrique Alba.
In 2019, Iberdrola México obtained AENOR certification for its four wind farms in Juchitán de Zaragoza (Oaxaca). Two photovoltaic plants were then accredited in 2020, while the ISO 14001:2015 certification process was completed for the remaining four renewable plants in 2022. This recognition is valid for three years and can be renewed with new audits.

Among other requirements, Iberdrola México achieved this certification in the field of Renewables due to its environmental policy, which sets targets and goals in this area, and after demonstrating the skills and training of its personnel. The company already had ISO 14001:2015 certification in the field of Generation (combined cycle and cogeneration power plants), and in 2022 it obtained the same recognition for wind and solar farm projects.
In addition, the Renewables area obtained Occupational Health and Safety certification for three photovoltaic plants and two wind farms, in accordance with ISO 45001:2018, and recertified the remaining five wind farms. Iberdrola México’s commitment to the highest standards in this field is illustrated by the fact that all its facilities have been certified under this international standard that seeks to improve safety in the workplace and reduce operating incidents.

The ISO 14001 international standard was created to address the need for a universal indicator to evaluate an organization’s efforts to achieve reliable and adequate environmental protection. The standards included in ISO 14001 establish tools and systems focused on internal company or organization production processes and their effect or impact on the environment, thereby helping reduce the risk to the environment.
