Decent education for a better future

For the past 66 years, every November 20, the United Nations has celebrated World Children’s Day, a date that serves as a reminder of the universal rights of children, including health, protection from violence, and education. At Iberdrola Mexico we believe in the importance of promoting brotherhood among boys and girls from all over the world, as well as looking after their welfare, given that day-to-day life all over the world revolves around economically active adults, who, in the process, often lose sight of the fact that what they are building in the present moment is the future that today’s children will inherit.

Our work at Iberdrola Mexico, in line with our commitment to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), includes initiatives that help guarantee the rights of children, such as education.

Construir para educar (Building to educate) is an initiative put forward by Fundación Iberdrola Mexico that aims to help more than 10,000 students in the Isthmus of Oaxaca region, through the reconstruction of 50 schools that were affected by the earthquakes of 2017. The aim of our work is to enable children to take classes in dignified conditions.

Another way we can commemorate this day is by encouraging children to continue and complete their studies, showing them that there are possibilities for everyone. One example of this is Educación con energía (Education with energy), which features workshops for elementary students so that their parents and teachers can work in a hands-on setting to acquire knowledge, not only in the field of science, but also in environmental care and personal growth.

We want to be facilitators of opportunities that allow children to face the challenges of a more demanding future, and we are convinced that education is the best way to achieve this. We are also working relentlessly to leave them with a better planet.

At Iberdrola Mexico we celebrate World Children’s Day by working to build a better world for every child and for those living in the communities where we operate, as well as for our workers’ children and for everyone who is part of the organizations allied to the company. The energy of girls and boys is our driving force for tomorrow.
